Viennese artists Peter and Elisabeth Pongratz have been coming to the Dalmatian island of Korčula for ten years to “take some time off” from the social stress of Vienna in order to enjoy some peace and quiet, which allows them to concentrate on their work.
For many years, their journey to Korčula included the gruelling act of packing all their materials, canvas, paint and paper, etc. Also, each year they had to search for appropriate accommodation which offered plenty of space, a lot of northern light, and silence. In time, they started to wish for their own place on the island. After spending a long time searching for the right spot, their friends, who really knew the local situation, helped them find a suitable plot of land in 1998. The perfect building site was found in Soline, a little place situated right by the sea amidst Dalmatian vegetation, with a picture postcard view, and only a walk away from the town of Korčula.
